Homemade Twix Bars

Thursday, September 1, 2011

I saw these on Pinterest a couple weeks ago and my poor keyboard turned into a drool catcher.  Luckily for my waistline, my sister's birthday was coming up and I always make her a treat.  It didn't matter if she likes Twix or not. This was meant to be her treat, so that I could start sleeping at night again.

I followed the recipe back to Hoosier Homemade where she's got fabulous step-by-step photos and the detailed recipe.

This is all you need to know, though... there's butter and brown sugar.  It's nearly impossible to go wrong with that combo.

My verdict?  Honestly, I thought they were really good but I wasn't swooning.  The picture and comments were better than the reality for me.

And then the next day happened!!  And they actually started tasting more like a Twix!  I still don't think they were a dead-ringer for them, in my opinion, they need a shortbread cookie to accomplish that, but they were very good. But she's got 100+ comments saying they taste just like the real thing so I could be a complete nutso!

The directions were great, they cut much better than I expected and I think I'll hang onto this recipe for a little bit yet!

And my sister loves elephants, so I packaged them up in a thrift store bowl I found for her.

It also happened to be my brother's birthday, so I made him some vanilla cream cheese scones that he asked for.

never once occurred to me to take a picture of these before I wrapped them up. Oops

And, of course, another peanut butter sheet cake.

And, this, my friends, is why I'm on Weight Watchers.

These look amazing. My bagel tastes like crap now, for a lack of a better word, after seeing these goodies. And I usually love my morning bagel.
Would love for you to share these at Bacon Time.

Yum! I must try the Twix recipe. I read it somewhere else a few weeks ago and thought it wouldn't be what I wanted BUT the hubby just saw a picture of them while I was reading your blog and now I have no choice but to make them ;-)
