Mardi Gras Desserts!

Monday, February 20, 2012

About 2 years ago I was contacted to make this cake and about 100 cupcakes
for a 10th anniversary party.  I felt the need to explain that because of the poor quality
of the pictures.  No worries, I've got MANY more terrible pictures to share with all of you!

This would be a great cake to make for your Mardi Gras celebration (the one you know you have every year!)!  This was a sheet cake that I made and then used a serrated knife to cut the shape out. After frosting it, I sprinkled it with green sanding sugar.  The sanding sugar actually makes it look awful in the picture, but in person it worked. Trust me!  I just took a small spatula, and spread the white icing on in the shape of the eyes.  The yellow feathers above the eyes and the purple accents are just fondant that I rolled, cut and then used a dry brush to brush on a sparkling powder.

The cupcake toppers were all cut by hand from fondant, as well!
