Many, many months ago… my daughter happened upon this sad little telephone bench in a Salvation Army and had to have it! I think we paid about $10 for it and there it sat in the garage ever since.
So a couple weeks ago, I got a little spark lit under me and started tackling it. I pulled those cushions apart and discovered 4 different layers of yuckiness. blech!
Once it was all apart, I spray-painted the frame white.
Then my daughter and I started debating… what fabric… pattern or solid… what do we do with the desktops??
We aren’t the most decisive pair.
Since I wanted to spend the least amount of money possible, I consulted the storage room and came up with a roll of wrapping paper I bought a couple years ago for $1. I’ve always loved it too much to wrap gifts with and it’s pretty heavy duty, so I decided to try to Mod Podge it onto the desk tops! It worked like a charm and we both love it! I did 4 coats of Mod Podge on each one and then sprayed the whole thing (frame included) with poly.
Then I found some turquoise fabric I’ve had for awhile and staple gunned that to the padded seat and back!
And here she is in all her glory! We LOVE her!
Here’s a before and after of the desks…
And a before and after of the whole desk! She’s going to be moving into the playhouse (we think!) soon!
