Living Room Reveal and Lighting

Sharing is caring!

If you follow me on Facebook, it probably seems like I’ve been talking about our house renovation forever. Trust me, I’m with you. It feels like fooooorever!!

Our renovation covered our entire 1st floor! Literally, every square inch of the 1st floor was harmed in the making of this beautiful home! Today, I’m going to share the Living Room Reveal and Lighting because it’s the room that is the most complete, and I’m just too excited to wait any longer!

This is the real estate listing of the living room from when we moved in this past February. And keep in mind, this photo was taken with a wide angle lens, so it was even more narrow than it appears in the photograph! (notice that there is NO ceiling light! Ceiling lights are must for us!)

And this is what the exact same view looks like today!

If you look again at the before picture, take a look at the wall on the left side of the picture that the TV is up against. We tore that entire thing down! I’ll go into more details in another post, but here’s a shot of what it looked like mid-demo.

The wall that the toilet was on is now a gorgeous bookshelf with columns!

And here’s a shot if I’m standing at the back of the living room (with the window behind me) looking towards the front of the house from the day we moved in:

Ugh, that brick wall. I’m telling you, removing that was probably the worst day of the whole renovation for me. Not only did we remove that, but we opened up the whole doorway into the front living room. And, of course, that wall on the right side of the picture is the toilet wall that came down.

This “wall” that we removed included the half bathroom, a coat closet and the world’s tiniest pantry. Here’s another angle that shows how closed off the living room used to be from the kitchen (on the other side of this wall).

Now when I stand in the same spot, this is my view:

This is also the point where I start revealing peeks of rooms that aren’t completely finished yet (ahem, pantry doors will come eventually). But it’s just so nice to have an open floor plan!

Pretend I’m standing about where the recliner is in the above picture. This is what my view to the kitchen used to be:

Now you can be practically anywhere on the 1st floor, and still be part of the action!

And while there are still A LOT of projects we have to finish (barn doors on the pantry, backsplash in kitchen, shelves beside fridge, paint bookshelves and stairs, etc.), the one project that got done the day it arrived was installing a ceiling fan in the living room!

We live in PA and our summers can be hot and humid. We are HUGE proponents of ceiling fans. I know some design shows will tear them down immediately, but they are wrong. WRONG.

I was so thrilled to partner with Del Mar Fans for this portion of our renovation to show you that ceiling fans can be stylish! Not only that, but they’re practical! They keep cooling costs down in the summer and make your house more comfortable overall!

Look how pretty this Kichler fan is!

I love the rustic industrial look it has and it blends in perfectly with the lighting in the rest of the house!

Aside from aesthetics, one of the reasons we chose this fixture is because there are no pull chains hanging from it. It’s all controlled from a wall-mount switch that comes with it. This was a requirement for my husband!

It also comes with an extra down rod if you want to lower it. We didn’t use that because we have standard height ceilings, but I love that it’s an option!

So what do you think? Do you love it as much as we do? Don’t you agree that there are ways to get the benefits of a ceiling fan and still look stylish??

Stay tuned for lots more renovation posts coming soon! I’ll share all about where we moved that half bathroom to, more reveals of the front of the house, behind the scenes of the demo and LOTS more!!

In the meantime, I’d love it if you pinned this post for living room inspiration!

Hi Susan! Thanks so much! I actually found the sofas on a local Facebook yardsale group! They were only a few months old and coming from a young single lady- no kids, no pets! Pretty much perfect condition and she sold them to me for a steal! She said they were a special order from Ethan Allen.
