Pretend I’m standing back in the corner of the old dining room (about where the green garage door is now). This is what the view used to look like when I looked across the front of the house.
We took that entire green wall down and made it flush with the ceiling and front wall. There was a tiny hallway right past it and then the stairs.
I could look at this set of before and afters every day! I lived it and it still amazes me the difference!
The stairwell had walls on either side that went straight up to the ceiling from the bottom step. We opened up the stairway on both sides as well.
This is what it looked like while we were working on it:
And what it looks like today!
Here’s a shot of that narrow hallway before we started working. I was standing at the front door and took a picture back towards the kitchen.
The after of the exact same view:
This angle gives you a better idea of how the new mudroom fits in with the rest of the house:
And the old view from the kitchen looking towards the front door:
Just a little bit more my style now!
I will be back with full tutorials on everything:
- how to open up a stairwell
- how to build a coat bench
- installing board and batten
- building the entryway bench
- building and installing a barn door
- and SO much more that went into the demo and renovation!
There are still a few things I want to do in order to call it complete (like add a fabric strip to my curtains to lengthen them). But I am SO happy with not just how far we’ve gotten, but how well it turned out!
This was our first ever renovation project, and we are thrilled with it!
