I love parties! Planning them, making food for them, hosting them, reliving them and even sometimes, attending them!
But I’m a bit of an old-fashioned party thrower. I like it basic. I’m sure people who know me are rolling their eyes, because, yes, I love my details and I tend to go a little crazy with them. I can take a theme and run with it. But, I like the basic premise of parties- close friends get together to play games, make a craft and open gifts. I’m not the biggest fan of renting an expensive place out or paying tons of money for entertainment. I don’t mind that other people do, but I prefer parties at home where you can actually talk and hang out with your friends. I don’t do vendors or anything like that- just use what I can from my stash and theme it out.
That being said, without a doubt, my favorite party of 2011 was my daughter’s Michael Jackson party. She had been planning it for over a year and it just was so her! I did almost everything for next to nothing and love the fact that it was just a basic little kid’s party. We did your old fashioned pin-the-tail-on game, musical “chairs” and cheap crafts from what I had laying around. It was just the two of us working together to get ready and I loved every second of it.
A very close runner-up was the BaByQ Shower I threw for my best friend for my goddaughter’s impending arrival! It was a very casual backyard BBQ and we had a ton of fun!
I also was able to hold a bridal shower this year, along with my sisters and mom. We went with a Tea Party Bridal Shower for our soon-to-be sister-in-law (now is!). And, of course, it goes without saying that the pictures are pretty crappy because I seem to have issues with my camera and lighting and holding still and …
And while I didn’t host a carnival this year, my sister and best friend did have one, so I still got to help lots! The pictures from my carnival post are a combination of the one I had for my son’s class 2 years ago and the ones my sister has had! And after the last carnival this past October, the frames for the booths have officially been retired! They had a good life!
And since I’m still coming off the high from it, I have to include the Grinch party for my daughter’s class holiday party.
Hope you enjoyed partying along with me! I can’t even think of what my next party coming up is!!
