Parks and Outdoor Spaces in Frederick, MD
On my 1st visit to Frederick almost 2 years ago, one of the things that really impressed me was how many parks there were! Parks filled with sprawling expanses of green grass and playgrounds for the kids. I just loved that scattered throughout this mid-size city, there were so many reasons to get outside and enjoy nature!
Baker Park is located right in the heart of downtown Frederick and is probably my favorite! I’m guessing it’s a favorite among many locals as well, because there are so many events held there!
Baker Park is also home to Frederick’s Fourth, the annual 4th of July celebration for downtown Frederick. You can find food trucks and a farmer’s market there on Fridays, jogging and biking paths, sporting events and so much more!

Outdoor Dining in Frederick, MD
It’s no secret that I love to eat and my only issue with Frederick is that there are so many amazing restaurants that it’s hard to pick! Every time I visit, I also want to go back to my favorites that I know won’t let me down, so I have to force myself to try new ones! Never disappointed with Frederick restaurants!
In the summer, it’s especially wonderful because so many restaurants in Frederick, MD have outdoor seating available.
My preference is always to sit along Carroll Creek because 1) I’m a people watcher and 2) If there’s water around, that’s where I want to be! Lucky for me, there are plenty of restaurants along Carroll Creek with outdoor seating so this is never an issue. The Wine Kitchen is a personal favorite (try the charcuterie!).
Don’t worry, there’s still plenty restaurants in Frederick, MD with outdoor seating that are not along Carroll Creek, though! Another family favorite is Pistarro’s (wood fired pizza!!) with a pretty large outdoor seating area that’s also dog-friendly.
Or just take some time strolling up and down Patrick and Market streets and you’ll find plenty of local restaurants with outdoor seating! It’s one of my favorite things about Frederick!

Live Music in Frederick, MD
I already talked about Baker Park up above, but if you’re visiting during the summer, be sure to plan on attending one of their summer concerts on a Sunday evening. There’s plenty of seating or bring a blanket and a picnic to really make a night of it!
If you’re 21+, you can also enjoy Alive @ Five every Thursday evening at the Carroll Creek Amphitheatre. There’s a small $5 cover fee for 3 hours of live music and a happy hour!

Shopping and Antique Markets in Frederick MD
Trust me when I tell you that I am not a big shopper AT ALL! I do not enjoy malls and when I have to run to a store, I know exactly what I’m going for and I’m in and out quickly. Shopping is just not my thing.
Unless I’m in Frederick! They have the quirkiest stores and I actually look forward to visiting so many of them! My favorites are Relish, Curious Iguana and Retro-Metro. But whatever you’re style, I promise you’ll find a store for you!
If antiques are more your thing, you will not be disappointed! All of Frederick County boasts antique barns and stores that can keep you busy for a whole weekend. Downtown Frederick alone has somewhere around 200 antique dealers and store in an 8 block radius!

Outdoor Activities in Frederick, MD
If you’re looking for outdoor activities in Frederick, MD there are plenty of bicycling tours in Frederick County for all ages and skill levels. You can take an easy family bike tour through downtown Frederick or be a little more adventurous and head out into the county for a covered bridge tour.
For hiking, I highly recommend Cunningham Falls State Park. It has an easy trail for beginners and more difficult trails for the more advanced hikers. It also has an accessible trail that brings you straight to the edge of the waterfall. And worth pointing out, the waterfall is actually Maryland’s highest cascading waterfall!
