Lemon Poppyseed Donut Recipe

These Lemon Poppyseed Donuts are perfect for dessert too!

  • 1 Cup buttermilk
  • ½ Cup sour cream
  • 1 Lemon juiced
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Tbsps vegetable oil
  • 2 Cups flour
  • ¼ Cup poppy seeds
  • ½ Cup sugar
  • 2 Tsps baking powder
  • 1 Tsp salt
  • ¼ Tsp ground ginger
  • 2 Tsps lemon zest
  • For the glaze:
  • 2 Tbsps butter
  • ¾ Cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsps milk
  • 1 Lemon juiced
  • Lemon wedges for garnish


  1. Preheat oven to 350F and grease a donut baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl incorporate the wet ingredients: buttermilk, sour cream, lemon juice, eggs, and oil.
  3. In another bowl combine dry ingredients: flour, poppy seed, sugar, baking powder, salt, ginger, and lemon zest.
  4. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ones.
  5. Stir until getting an uniform batter and it becomes sticky.
  6. Fill the baking dish with the batter, up to the top.
  7. Transfer to the oven and cook for about 15 minutes or until golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
  9. In a blender mix the butter, sugar, milk, and lemon juice.
  10. Pour the glaze over the donuts and garnish with the lemon wedges.
  11. Serve and enjoy.
